Literature reflects ethical norms and conflicts. But how can narration itself – as cultural practice – be related to ethics? One may maintain that literature opens up and keeps open hitherto unexploited possibilities of thinking and acting and thus remains connected to ethics. But narratives are powerful in themselves. And literature confronts us with the the discursive power of moral judgement. This course follows these questions using literary and theoretical texts, exploring the tension inherent in the connection between narration and ethics from various perspectives.
