The seminar will explore the international law and policy of migration. It focuses on refugee law, but it also touches on the law governing migrant workers and human trafficking. Specifically, we'll examine how the international treaty system governs and shapes states' treatment of temporary workers, refugees, and other short- and long-term migrants. The seminar will feature normative policy discussions about how well the system works and what alternatives might be possible. The seminar will also cover how U.S. domestic asylum/refugee law incorporates the international refugee regime. We may have one or more guest talks by scholars and practitioners with extensive professional experience in these areas.
