In more detail:
Install Safe Exam Browser (SEB)
If you already have SEB version 3.1.0, 2.4 or 2.3 installed, you can continue using it with the previous version of the HUJI SEB configuration file. (Still available at HUJI-Windows-3.1.0.seb, HUJI-Windows-2.4.seb and HUJI-Windows-2.3.seb).
Launch Safe Exam Browser
To open SEB with the HUJI configuration, double click on the downloaded HUJI SEB configuration file .
SEB should open on the EXAM Moodle login page.
There should be a Quit SEB link at bottom right.
If not, you are not using the HUJISEB configuration file.
If you are using an old version of the configuration file, or an old version of SEB, there will be an error message at bottom right.
If so, install the latest configuration file, or latest version of SEB, and try again.

Check your SEB
*Note: The Quit SEB link appears only in SEB and only if opened with the HUJI configuration.
Notes for Teachers:
If you lose your connection to Moodle...
If there is a temporary network disruption or if Moodle is not responding then, if you have made changes since losing connectivity, the following appears at the head of the page:
Any changes that you made since connectivity was lost, and any changes that you continue to make while this message is still displayed, will be lost if you reload the page.
So do not reload the page - unless you don't mind losing anything that hasn't been saved
(Saves occur automatically every 60 seconds, or when you move to another page, or click on the Save button - if there is one.)
Within a minute of the connection being restored, the following appears:

Advice to Windows users

To unlock, forcibly shutdown your laptop.

In brief
- Install Safe Exam Browser 3.3.1 for Windows or Safe Exam Browser 2.3.2 for MacOS.
- Download the HUJI configuration file: HUJI-Windows-3.3.1.seb or HUJI-MacOS-2.3.2.seb.
- Double click on the downloaded file to launch SEB.
- Check that SEB opens on the EXAM Moodle page and that there is a Quit SEB link at bottom right.
- If your EXAM is on the exams-test network, connect to it before launching SEB. Check that EXAM net (exams-test) appears above the Quit SEB link

On your laptop, install Safe Exam Browser as follows:- On Windows:
- Download Safe Exam Browser 3.3.1 for Windows*
- A configuration wizard will open. Agree to everything.
- SEB will now be available in Programs
- On MacOS:
- Download Safe Exam Browser 2.3.2 for MacOS.
- Click on the downloaded file and move it to Applications.
- Create a new account for working in SEB and change to it.
However, you will need to use SEB with the HUJI configuration. So... - On Windows:
- Download the HUJISEB configuration file as follows:

- Download file HUJI-Windows-3.3.1.seb*
- On MacOS:
- Download file HUJI-MacOS-2.3.2.seb
- On Windows:

Launch Safe Exam Browser
To open SEB with the HUJI configuration, double click on the downloaded HUJI SEB configuration file .

In both Windows and MacOS, after SEB opens a popup will appear:
SEB Re-ConfiguredWhether you choose to quit or continue, the HUJI configuration will be saved.
New settings have been saved,
they will be used when you start SEB next time again.
Do you want to start
working with SEB or quit for now?
So from now on, SEB in Programs (or Applications) will also use the HUJI configuration.
Note: This popup will appear only when you open SEB from the configuration file rather than from Programs (or Applications).
SEB should open on the EXAM Moodle login page.

If not, you are not using the HUJISEB configuration file.
If you are using an old version of the configuration file, or an old version of SEB, there will be an error message at bottom right.

Connect to the exams-test network
- Ensure that your laptop is connected to the correct wireless network for the exam that you will be taking.
You will be probably be required to use the exams-test network.
Authentication to the exams-test network is with username exam and password exam (or username moodle_exams and password exams_moodle).
Connect to the exams-test network before opening SEB.
Check that EXAM net (exams-test) appears above the Quit SEB link.
Note: Only EXAM Moodle is accessible from the exams-test network.
Check your SEB
- First, set up your demo exam as follows:
- In any browser, on any computer, go to:
- http://exam4.cs.huji.ac.il/byodemo/examnet if you will be required to use the exams-test network, or
- http://exam4.cs.huji.ac.il/byodemo otherwise
- Authenticate
- In any browser, on any computer, go to:

Now, attempt the demo exam as follows:
On your laptop:- Connect to the exams-test network (if you chose the first of the above two links).
- Launch Safe Exam Browser. The EXAM Moodle login page should open.
There should be a Quit SEB link at bottom right. If not, you are not using the HUJI SEB configuration.
If you are using an old version of SEB, or an old version of the HUJI SEB configuration file, there will be an error message at bottom right.
If you are connected on the exams-test network, EXAM net (exams-test) will appear above the Quit SEB link.
- Authenticate
- If you correctly installed SEB and the SEB file (and are connected to the exams-test network if you chose the first link), you will be redirected to the demo exam.
Otherwise, EXAM Moodle will exit with an error message. - Clicking on Finish exam and then on Submit exam will redirect you back to the login page.
- Click on link Quit SEB* at bottom right of the login page to close SEB.
- Connect back to your previous network.
*Note: The Quit SEB link appears only in SEB and only if opened with the HUJI configuration.
Notes for Teachers:
- If your demo exam prevents you accessing EXAM Moodle in the usual way, you can delete it at https://exam4.cs.huji.ac.il/byodemo/delete
- One can take the demo exam also without SEB:
- To set up your demo exam: Go to: http://exam4.cs.huji.ac.il/byodemo/noseb and authenticate
- To attempt the demo exam: Go to EXAM Moodle: exam.huji.ac.il and authenticate again
If you lose your connection to Moodle...
If there is a temporary network disruption or if Moodle is not responding then, if you have made changes since losing connectivity, the following appears at the head of the page:
Network connection lost. (Autosave failed).
Make a note of any responses entered on this page in the last few minutes, then try to re-connect.
Once connection has been re-established, your responses should be saved and this message will disappear.

- If you are working in SEB, all buttons will be disabled. However, you will still be able to click on link Recover from lost connection (equivalent to Finish exam....) to see if connectivity has been restored and enable the buttons when it has been restored.
- If you are not working SEB, any unsaved changes will probably be completely lost
Troubleshooting

In general, we recommend creating a Restore Point before installing SEB.
You will then be able, if necessary, to revert your Windows installation to its state before you installed SEB.
Note: Reverting to a Restore point affects only the registry, drivers, system and program files - not your files and data.

We also recommend saving files in other open applications before opening SEB.
If SEB locks on a red screen, you may have to power cycle your laptop:
Power it off by pressing for several seconds on the power button. Then power it on again.
- If you cannot kill SEB on MacOS:
If you close your laptop while working in SEB, your laptop may lock on a red screen.
To unlock, forcibly shutdown your laptop.
When you restart, choose not to restart applications.
If there is no such option, then forcibly prevent applications from restarting by pressing keys option, command and esc as you power up.
Next time you use SEB, make sure to start it from the HUJI-MacOS-2.3.2.seb file - not from Applications.
In general, we recommend creating an account especially for SEB and using SEB in that account only.
Alternatively disable Reopen windows when logging back in by disabling it in the popup that opens next time you restart or shut down.
- If you cannot kill SEB on Windows:

On Windows, it can happen that the first time you click on the HUJI SEB configuration file after downloading it,
the EXAM Moodle login page shows the Quit SEB link but on subsequent occasions, a popup opens with message:SEB Installation is corruptedAlso, the EXAM Moodle login pages opens without the Quit SEB link.
SEB found irregular files in its program directory.
These might have ben left from an older SEB version is an update failed.
Uninstall SEB using the Windows Control Panel,
afterwards delete the SafeExamBrowser subdirectory from the Program files (x86) directory
and re-install this SEB version freshly.
List of spare files....
If this happens, it is most likely because your anti-virus has changed the SEB configuration. (The error message is misleading.)
The list of "spare files" may include the names of some of the anti-virus files.
You will have to reset your laptop to get out of SEB.
If you cannot uninstall your anti-virus, you will not be able to do the exam using BYOD. (Temporarily neutralizing the anti-virus does not seem to help.)

On Windows, if an older version of SEB is already installed, you will have to uninstall it before installing the later version.
If you have trouble uninstalling, then try deleting the following directories:- C:\Program Files(x86)\SafeExamBrowser\SebWindowsBrowser
- C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\SafeExamBrowser
- C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\eqsoft\seb
- C:\Program Files (x86)\ETH Zuerich\SEB Windows 1.8

On Windows, it can happen that if you power cycle when your are in SEB, the Windows Task Manager remains disabled.
To enable it again, in brief:- Click on Start. Go to Run. Alternatively, use Windows key+R keyboard shortcut.
- Type regedit and press Enter. The Registry Editor will start. If the Registry Editor is also disabled, you will first need to enable registry editing.
- Through the left hand navigation pane, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\ Windows\ Current Version\Policies\System. If the System key is not there, you will need to create it.
- In the work area, locate DisableTaskMgr. If this value is not there, you will need to create a new DWORD value called DisableTaskMgr. Double click on it. A window will pop up.
- Enter its value data as 0 and press OK.
- Close the Registry Editor. If the Task Manager is still disabled, restart your computer.

On Windows, if a virtual machine is installed and one attempts to open SEB on the exams-test network, the page fails to load.
It happens because the virtual machine changes the DNS settings.
Changing to another network and reloading allows one to quit SEB in the usual way.
The workaround is- Disable Virtual Host-Only Network
- Change the DNS settings of exams-test to Automatic.
- On MacOS, it can happen that if SEB is already installed and one then installs a newer version, attempting to open SEB will require a password.
If so, either create a new account and run SEB in that account.
(It is, in any case, preferable to run SEB in another account.)
Or follow these instructions
